The firm’s managing partner, joined the firm in January 1985, and since that time has handled over seventy appeals, over thirty writs, and hundreds of trial court motions and oppositions. In 2018 he was certified as a specialist in appellate law by The State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. His appellate experience includes practice before the California Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal, and has also included filing an Amicus Brief and a Petition for Certiorari to the United States Supreme Court. He approaches appellate work from the perspective of a trial lawyer, having learned that craft from Bob Holstein, who was the founder of the firm and one of the community’s finest lawyers. Mr. Unitt received his B.A. in History and Political Science from UC Riverside, and his law degree from the UC Davis School of Law. He has also completed the “Mediating the Litigated Case” program, a forty-two hour course offered through the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution of the Pepperdine Law School.

Mr. Unitt has been admitted to practice in California since 1983, and is also admitted to practice in a number of Federal Courts including the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Riverside County Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the American Constitution Society. He is a founding member of the Civil Mediation Panel of the Riverside Superior Court. He also serves as an arbitrator for the Riverside Superior Court, and as a volunteer mediator for the Court of Appeal. He has taught continuing education seminars on appellate practice, civil procedure and tort law issues, and writes for the Riverside County Bar magazine. He has been a guest lecturer on labor law issues for over twenty-five years for the Surveyors Apprenticeship program (IUOE Local 12). In 2006, the San Bernardino County Bar Association recognized Mr. Unitt with the Florentino Garza Fortitude Award, and he was the 2018, recipient of the St. Thomas More Award from the Red Mass Steering Committee for Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.
